Music Moment

Music is my life, my life is music.

I am always looking for new music. Every once in a while I come across something that just needs to be shared with the world. Since I don't have the power to do that, I figured I would just honor them by putting them on this page.

I would like to start with one of my favorite local bands - J.wride

I have now seen these guys perform live three times, and let me tell you it is not nearly enough. These guys are phenomenal. I would marry any one of these three fella's - Jesse, Court, and Austin.

Here is just a small sample of their amazing talent. (and yes I was at this concert)

Second, I found this band a few days ago and instantly fell in love. And then I found out that they had free songs on facebook and I was even more in love. So I do recommend taking advantage of that if you like this.

The band is called Quiet Company.
Enjoy

This one took me by surprise. I'm usually not the biggest fan of female singers. There are a few that I just adore such as Regina Spektor and Tegan & Sara. But for the most part I prefer the male voice. Besides that fact that she is a woman, I really didn't think I would enjoy her music just by the looks of her. I have come to find that a lot of the bands/artists that I like tend to have a certain look. For example, I found the band Quiet Company (above) when a picture of the band members came up on grooveshark and I thought to myself, "That looks like a band I would enjoy." I was correct. But this lady just proves that you can't judge a book by its cover.

Another local artist: Emily Brown

So for those of you who know me well, you will know that, next to Muse, Mudbison is my favorite band. Sadly all good things must come to an end. Spencer Russell, the front man, got married. Also the base player is going on a mission. So the band kind of collapsed. Hopefully not for forever. However, Spencer Russell has apparently been doing some work of his own. It's not Mudbison, but it still is great.

This one I have to thank my dear amigo Amanda for. She has awesome taste in music. (Just like me!) We wanted to learn a piano/ ukulele duet to this song so we could play it together. We were just goofing around with it one night, but it actually sounded pretty good. This one is called 5 years time, by Noah and the Whale.

The Fratellis!
Not really one hundred percent sure how to pronounce their name, but I love these guys. I first heard them about a year ago via pandora and since then they've always been one of those background bands on my ipod. For some reason the other day I was really in the mood to listen to their music, and I sort of rediscovered them.

For the past couple days, this next song has been my favorite. I just love the story it tells. Plus Josh Ritter is one of my favs, so I enjoy almost any of his songs. I guess this really isn't the most catchy of songs, so it might be kind of hard to get into. But just give it a chance and it may grow on you like it did me.

Today whilst I was in my Biology class, we were talking about eyes (gross) and how we really see everything upside-down and backwards but our brains flip the image the right way and I was reminded of a Death Cab for Cutie song.

The song goes:
And when I see you,
I really see you upside-down.
But my brain know better
It pick you up and turns you around.

I was then reminded that Death Cab has a new album out that I have yet to listen to. So I went home and did just that. And can I say that I loved it!

There were plenty of good songs on it but this one was one of my favorites
It is called St. Peter's Cathedral:

I'll admit, I gave in today and bought J.wide's new EP. I had good reasons to though:
1) I love J.wride more then life itself, and I want to support them.
2) I had been wanting this ever since they announced months ago they were going to release it
3) Since J.wride is a local band you can't find their songs on the internet to download illegally (What? I don't download songs illegally. Who said that?)

Anyways, I am glad I did, because it is fantastic. This isn't my favorite song on the EP but it is the only one with a video I could post on here. (And it still is really good)

We were born without time
Nameless in the arms
Of a mother, a father, and God
When the world would wait for us
A thousand years in the crush
Of our eyes, fearless, and awed
So quietly, we'd fade into sleep
With nothing on our minds

And then we longed to be loved
In the rush, we become
Some things we thought we'd never be
We were surprised by how hard
Left wary and scarred
From the nights spent feeling incomplete
And all those evenings swearing at the sky
Wishing for more time
All the promises we broke when we tried
Just wastin' all our time

We grow old all at once
And it comes like a punch
In the gut, in the back, in the face
When it seems someone's lied
And our parents have died
Then we hold onto each other in their place
And I feel the water risin' around us
Maybe that's okay
Yeah, I feel the world changin' all at once
I guess it'll be okay

And we all had one hope
There was someone lookin' down
When we return our bodies to each other
And the ground

Such a beautiful song.
Another great song by the Airborne Toxic Event called All at Once. I love their song Sometime Around Midnight and Missy, but I've got to say this is quickly becoming my favorite of theirs. I actually first heard this song tonight on an HBO commercial and I instantly knew it was the Airborne Toxic Event. So I looked it up and have been listening to it over and over.

I love me my local bands. I just now found another great one. They are a band from Salt Lake called Argyle. I found them while I was voting for J.wride on KSL's Utah's best garage band competition.

Fun.

Fun has been one of my favorite bands for a while, but I always thought that they were going to be one of those bands that just came out with one album and that was it. This weekend during the Superbowl a car commercial played a song that I though sounded very familiar. And the next day I heard it on SUU's radio station and they said that it was by Fun.! (I later realized that they had sung this song on Glee and that's why is sounded so familiar, but we won't talk about that) As soon as I got home I looked it up and found out that Fun. had a new album coming out! I cannot fully express how stoked I am about this.

First here is the song that I heard on the commercial, it is called: We are young

I am kind of a Hipster when it comes to my music. I am kind of sad that this song is becoming so popular, but at least the world is recognizing some decent music for once.

Since this band is so awesome I have to post another video

This is the acoustic version, I think it is better.

The unlucky number 13! I had to make this one good to counterbalance the unlucky number. This song easily does that. It is Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men. Such a catchy song, I believe I have listened to it at least 20 times today. Plus the music video for this one is so awesome. I'm not sure why I find it so amusing to watch, but i do. You can see for yourself.
